Compulsive Masturbation

General

My boyfriend, age 44, is a compulsive masturbator. He will get on the phone for 3-6 hours at a time and call the sex oriented chat lines and talk to other men on there. He say’s he just likes talking to the “idiots just to get them off, and will come up with some of the most twisted stories and plots he can think of. What started out being something we used to do just for laughs at first has turned out to be a compulsion that has taken him over.

He has totally changed from a sweet and loving guy that said I was the best thing that ever happened to him to a compulsive masturbator. He said doesn’t like having sex anymore, but masturbates so much it is not funny.

His mom and dad have both told me he has completely changed from the way he was at one time. Is this the sign of a midlife crisis?

I think he may be wanting help for this because he asked to look up some information on the web for compulsive masturbation a couple of months ago.

masturbator

good site for information. www.purewarrior.org. sounds like he may have an addiction.

Compulsive masturbation

I myself have experienced similar to your partner. I started by masturbating due to boredom, but within 5 months I soon became a 5 tug a day man - and can now only ejaculate when fingering my own bottom and concentrating on Terry Wogan.

Obviously this is not healthy, and feel I am stuck in a rut.

Addiction

You are describing an addiction, which like any addiction, can start out quite lightly then takes over until the person is helpless and in the grip of something he cannot control. His personality seems to change, and he wants to do more and more things. Underneath that is usually a feeling of emptiness that can't be filled, and the addiction helps to numb the pain of that.
He definitely needs help, as it is almost impossible to conquer this alone, although some men have done it. There is a helpline, in the UK, at 020 8442 0026, and there are some good web sites if you do a search for "Compulsive sex". He will do best if he talks to an experienced therapist who will guide him through.
